Speaker Profile: Albert Poon

Dr. Poon received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of NSW, Australia, specializing in the economy of electric energy production.


After about 3 years working in the NSW Electricity Commission, Sydney, he returned to Hong Kong in 1980 and worked in the CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. He retired from CLP in 2013 as the Deputy Managing Director. He has assisted the planning and development of the power industry in Hong Kong over 30 years.

Albert is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Australia (FIE Aust.) and Chartered Electrical Engineer and Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (C.Eng, M.I.E.E.)


Albert joined Rotary in 1992. He was Club President in 1998, District Secretary 2007 and Assistant Governor in 2009. Albert has been using his engineering expertise in Rotary services, especially in China.


He has involved in a number of water service projects in China in the past 10 years in the areas of exploring water resources for communities and providing clean drinking water to schools.
